영어 리딩 무작정 따라하기 - 뼈대가 보이는 가지치기 독해법

집에 사 둔 책들 정리.

오래 전에 사두고 읽다가 그만 둔 것을 하나씩 다 읽고 정리하고 있다.

쭉~ 다 읽어 보니 괜찮다.

모르고 있던 상식도 알게 되고~ ^^

안에 있는 작은 별책 부록은 책의 내용의 본문만 다시 요약한 거라서, 한 번 더 읽는 기분이다.

영어는 꾸준히 공부해야지. 

읽다보면 이해안가는 것이 많다. 기초가 약해서...

2010년에 출간되고 산 책이라 지금도 있을까 싶어서 찾아 보니 아직도 있네... ^^

그래도 옛날 책이니... 어학 책은 항상 최신으로 보는게 좋을 것 같다.

집에 있는 책 보면서 다 정리한 후에 새 책을 살 듯~ ㅋㅋㅋ

감으로하는 영어 (기타 비교 부정 구문)

1. no less 직업명사 than 사람 : "다른 사람이 아닌 바로 그 '직업'의 그 '사람'

ex) no less a linguist than Jackendoff

(다름 아닌 언어학자 Jackendoff)

2. no better than : ~ 보다 더 나을 것이 없는 (= as good as, almost)

ex) He is no more than a begger

A ... no more B ... than C ~ D ~

C가 D 하지 않는 것처럼 A는 B 하지 않는다.

ex) A whale is no more a fish than a horse is (a fish).

​

I can no more swim than a stone can.

돌이 수영을 못 하는 것처럼 나는 수영을 못한다.

I cannot swim any more than a stone can.

('not ~ any more than')

참고) 'no = not ... any'

Just as a stone cannot swim, so I cannot swim.

[The fact that we were born in a poor nation gives us] no more [a right to betray our country] than does [the fact that we were born in a poor family] give us [a right to betray our family].

우리가 가난한 가정에서 태어났다는 사실이 우리에게 우리의 가정을 배반할 권리를 주지 않는 것처럼 우리가 가난한 나라에서 태어났다는 사실이 우리에게 우리의 나라를 배반할 권리를 주지 않는다.

(The fact that we were born in a poor nation does not give us) a right to betray our company any more than does the fact that we were born in a poor family give us a right to betray our family.

(Just as) the fact that we were born in a poor family does not give us a right to betray our family, so does the fact that we were born in a poor nation not give us a right to betray our country.

비교 부정 구문

NOT LESS THAN

1. not less than : 적어도 (= at least)

ex) He has not less than 500 bucks

2. not less 형용사 than ~ : ~ 보다 덜 '형용사' 하지 않다.

ex) Mary is not less cute than Jane.

(Mary는 Jane 보다 덜 귀엽지 않다. => Jane 정도로 귀엽거나 혹은 Jane 보다 더 귀엽다)

NOT MORE THAN

1. not more than : 기껏해야, 많아야 (= at most)

ex) He has not more than 50 bucks.

2. not more 형용사 than ~ : ~ 보다 더 '형용사' 하지 않다.

ex) Mary is not more cute than Jane.

(Mary는 Jane 보다 더 귀엽지 않다. => Jane 정보로 귀엽거나 혹은 Jane 보다 덜 귀엽다)

NO LESS THAN

1. no less than : ~ 만큼이나 많이 (= as many/much as)

ex) He has no less than 500 bucks.

2. no less 형용사 than ~ : ~ 만큼 그렇게 '형용사'한 (= just as 형용사 as ~)

ex) He is no less handsome than Jim.

(= He is just as handsome as Jim.)

NO MORE THAN

1. no more than : 단지 (= only)

ex) He has no more than 10 bucks.

2. no more 형용사 than ~ : ~ 하지 않는 것처럼 '형용사'하지 않다 (?)

A ... no more B ... than C ~ D ~

C가 D 하지 않는 것처럼 A는 B 하지 않는다.

ex) A whale is no more a fish than a horse is (a fish).
